Greetings,

After celebrating my personal fourth Father’s Day with Emma and my first with my son Jackson (I was lucky to share my day with him on his 1st birthday today), I planned on coming home tonight and adding a couple of posts to the blog. Alas though, my eyes are growing weary and the comforts of a bed after a day of walking around the zoo in mid-90 temperatures has a tolling effect on me.

Having said this, I am going to share a site tonight that I have heard good things about from Jim Hollis and Kevin Jarrett.  It is called the Grammar Ninja and it plays exactly like it sounds like…A kung-fu style grammar party!

Just to start off with, I have used this within my first grade class (Beginner Level) and it does work nicely as a review of sorts for my children on nouns and verbs, but with the online version you will have repeat sentences after a while. My suggestion would be to read Jim Hollis’ post above and there he details how to download an application that allows you to make your own sentences for the Grammar Ninja Game.

As I mentioned, there are three varying levels to choose from. The screen shot above details what each level asks the ninja to be able to detect. The last two levels were a testament to my former grammar teachers, because a lot of those I do not touch upon in my 1st grade curriculum and I still held my own.

Once you choose your level, you are ready for your intellectual battle!

The children really get into this game. It works well with the Smart Board and used as a whole class instruction time, and it works well within the lab setting as well around the mid-point of 1st grade as well. However you choose to use this with the children, you are sure to get smiles from your students!

As with all of the posts that will be listed on this Blog, the site above is listed and categorized within the Moodle Companion Site. At the end of each post I will be listing exactly where to find this resource within the Moodle Companion Site.

Please share your experiences with this resource in your own classroom with all of us in the comments section!

Thanks for stopping,
